Creating a Web Design For Your Business
Part 1

Customer Responsibilities

1. Define Your Site

Think about the kind of web design you want to have. Look at the website designs of other people who have a business similar to yours.
  • Decide on the general color scheme and style you want in your web design.
  • Decide how many pages your site will have. Define each page.
  • You will need to provide all of the text for your pages. Compose a document on your computer using Microsoft Word or a plain text editor. In this document, type all of the text you want on each page. The target is 500 - 800 words per page, including your Home Page. Go over it several times until you have a final version. You will later send us this document as an email attachment.
  • People expect to see pictures when they view web pages. Can you provide them? If so, take the pictures now. Read our Tips on Taking Pictures. If you can not take suitable pictures, we can provide stock photography. These are generic high quality photos suitable use by for any business.
After you have completed all of these steps, you are ready to continue with the process.

2. Choose a Domain Name

Your small business website will be known by its domain name, which is of the form something.com. As a general rule, you should select a name ending in .com. Read this article to learn about domain name extensions or top-level domains.

A good choice is of critical importance. Try to include words in the domain name that relate to your business, or words people might search for. We strongly recommend that you read this article which explains the importance of choosing a domain name wisely.

3. Check Availability of the Domain Name

After you decide on a domain name, see if it is available. Go to this page and check availability. Type in the domain name without the .com. If it is available, the .com in the table will show in blue. If it shows in red, then it is taken.

If the domain name you want is taken, similar names may be offered. Again, choose wisely and not by the seat of your pants.

Domain name registration is free if you use our services and choose a domain name ending in .com or .org.

4. Review the Agreement

Print out our New Web Site Agreement and read it thoroughly.
